Organized in 1920 to promote interest in the game of golf, the birth of this Association was heralded as an important step to the advancement of the game in this district. The Northern California Section was granted a charter of affiliation by The PGA of America in October 1924 and is one of the forty-one designated Sections of the PGA of America, the world's largest working sports organization.

Also incorporated in the section is that portion of Northwestern Nevada bounded by a straight line running directly south from the western boundary of Idaho to the 38th degree latitude, then west to the California-Nevada border and down to Beatty. With over 1,100 PGA professionals and apprentices, this association of golf professionals focuses at providing the benefits of golf to people as individuals as well as to the community.
